Cooling Energy Recovery

A heat pump can be used to recover the heat released from cooling system compressors. Although low in temperature, this waste heat can be warmed using a heat pump that is far more efficient than a steam boiler.

Not only does this type of project cut process energy use by half or more, but it also contributes to reducing the plant’s carbon emissions.

Process Energy Recovery

In cases where one process requires cooling and another requires heat, we can implement a heat exchanger to ensure the transfer of heat and reduce energy consumption.

Treated Water Recovery

By reducing water losses and optimizing water consumption in a process or boiler, a plant can decrease its use of water and chemicals required to treat it.

Adding a Convection Economizer

A non-condensing economizer recovers sensible heat from smoke to preheat feed water in the boiler. This can deliver fuel savings of 4% to 8%, depending on the type of fuel used.

The percentage of fuel savings for each measure is for reference purposes only. Actual values may vary based on the conditions in which the steam boiler is operated and the cross effect between energy efficiency measures.

Reducing Fresh Water Supply

With condensate recovery and water purge reduction, the boiler requires less fresh water and thermal energy for preheating.

Preheating Make-Up Water with Surface Purges

A blowdown heat recovery unit (BHRU) can be set up to recover energy when purging the boiler to preheat make-up water. Reducing the number of purges and recovering heat can deliver fuel savings of 1% to 2%.

The percentage of fuel savings for each measure is for reference purposes only. Actual values may vary based on the conditions in which the steam boiler is operated and the cross effect between energy efficiency measures.

Heating Wash Water with a Condensing Economizer

A condensing economizer recovers latent heat from combustion smoke. The available heat reaches 65 °C, which is ideal for uses such as heating the plant’s wash water. This can deliver fuel savings of 1% to 3%, depending on the type of fuel used and the way heat is repurposed.

The percentage of fuel savings for each measure is for reference purposes only. Actual values may vary based on the conditions in which the steam boiler is operated and the cross effect between energy efficiency measures.

Adding a Plant Master to Manage a Boiler Fleet

When a plant uses several boilers to meet its steam requirements, it can improve overall boiler room efficiency by using a sequence controller. The Plant Master controller helps achieve fuel savings of 1% to 2%.

The percentage of fuel savings for each measure is for reference purposes only. Actual values may vary based on the conditions in which the steam boiler is operated and the cross effect between energy efficiency measures.

Managing Combustion Through Micro-Modulation

A micro-modulation system optimizes the burner’s operating range by limiting the number of times the boiler starts up and shuts down, in addition to ensuring its safe operation. This technology can deliver fuel savings of 0.5% to 3%.

The percentage of fuel savings for each measure is for reference purposes only. Actual values may vary based on the conditions in which the steam boiler is operated and the cross effect between energy efficiency measures.
